    Commercial Dishwasher

The commercial dishwasher plays a huge role in the catering industry – enabling a thorough clean for your utensils, cutlery, and crockery necessary for the swift and hygienic turnover of the dinner service.

By saving time and money through the use of a commercial dishwasher, as opposed to washing by hand, it is important to invest that time and money back into the maintenance of your appliance.

Commercial dishwasher troubleshooting often reveals leakage, drainage, or having to run the dishes through multiple times to be common indications of commercial dishwasher problems.

If you see any of these occurring within your kitchen, its best practise to call an electrical engineer for commercial dishwasher repair.

The commercial dishwasher engineers at Nova Catering Repairs are dedicated to providing the best commercial dishwasher servicing, aiming to reduce your equipment downtime and get your dishes sparkling again.

How long should a commercial dishwasher last?

It’s hard to pinpoint the exact life expectancy of a commercial dishwasher, due to the numerous factors that may affect it – such as the type of dishwasher, how often it is used, and how it is used and cared for.

However, it is often believed a commercial dishwasher should last somewhere between 10-15 years. Dishwashers used heavily may only last five years before they start needing repairs.

Frequent maintenance checks and cleaning will help your commercial dishwasher last longer.

Draining the dishwasher and removing food scraps daily, alongside internally washing the dishwasher to descale or remove bacterial build up, are simple maintenance steps you can take to help your dishwasher last longer.

What are the different types of commercial dishwashers?

There are three main types of commercial dishwashers commonly found in the catering services.

The conveyor is a dishwasher built for high volume, fast-paced kitchens. They handle the highest number of racks an hour out of the three choices.

The conveyor dishwasher takes up a good deal of space, however, since dirty dishes need to be loaded onto a conveyor belt which passes through the machine, arriving clean and dry on the other side.

The door type, or rack, dishwasher is often considered a smaller version of the conveyor. Though it still operates at a high speed, suitable for commercial use, it handles less racks an hour than the conveyor.

On the other hand, they also take up less space than the conveyor, meaning it is suitable for smaller kitchens or restaurants.

Door type dishwashers work by inserting a rack of dirty dishes manually into the machine, before pulling the door down and letting it wash and dry the dishes.

The undercounter is the smallest and last option. Due to its compact size, it sits under the work surface more like a domestic dishwasher and is loaded manually. It’s not as quick as the other two options, either, washing and drying only around 30 racks per hour. The undercounter dishwasher suits smaller kitchens or bars that are limited by space.

What temperature should a commercial dishwasher be set at?

A dishwasher’s wash cycle typically operates at 50-60 degrees Celsius, whilst the rinse cycle is higher at 80 degrees Celsius.

The Food Standards Agency outlines sustained temperatures above 70 degrees Celsius are needed to kill bacteria.
